To attract visitors to his one-man art exhibitions, Gregoire would necessarily require some publicity. Remarkably, over his twenty-year career he never paid for any advertising.
In his coast-to-coast U.S. tour in 1967-68, as he visited many cities for the first time, Gregoire astutely began his visits to new cities by offering to paint the portrait of the Mayor or other notable locals. The unveiling of this portrait at the exhibition naturally attracted the media, thereby generating the required publicity. As an added benefit, the portrait attracting the attention would often be purchased. In later years his reputation alone generated sufficient interest in the media such that the local press would voluntarily publish stories about his exhibitions, often accompanied by pictures of the artist and his work.
Below we present a sample of the newspaper articles that featured Gregoire through the years. These articles were kept in his personal scrapbook; unfortunately, many clippings have deteriorated. Nevertheless, the few that we have salvaged present a glimpse into the scope of his career.
